New Beer Released at Beachwood Brewery: cHops IPA

Last week, I went to one of the two locations of Beachwood Brewery to try their newly released IPA, Pride of cHops IPA. Having been released that evening (only a few hours earlier(!)), I tried a pint of it, accompanied by a beer/alcoholic beverages blogger.
I found the nose on it very hoppy – very pleasantly hoppy! However, upon hitting the palate, the taste of hops was not as noticeable. Yes, it was noticeable, of course, but not as much as one would expect from its nose. On the finish, it continued its sloping-off of body and hops. It was neither a heavy IPA, nor sessionable either, however, it was somewhat sessionable. I am not complaining about this IPA – it is just an amusing sensation to have the body and the hops dropping off in a sort of slope, of sorts.
According to the Beachwood website, this beer was created “To commemorate the 20th anniversary of O’Brien’s Pub in San Diego, California,” they “brewed this marvelously hoppy and aromatic India pale ale. A blend of Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, & Mosaic set the tone for this splendid celebratory ale.” For those interested, it has 99 IBUs.
While I have never heard of this pub, according to a press release, “as one of the original craft beer bars in the country, O’Brien’s Pub laid the foundation for many great craft beer bars that followed. The limited edition PRIDE OF cHOPS will be served on draft and sold in 22 oz. bottles at both Beachwood locations as well as O’Brien’s Pub.”
It’s worth a try.
