Breakdown of Total Crew, Supply, Gear, and More Considering Expansions for Firefly: The Game
With several different game expansions for Firefly: The Game, it can be somewhat dizzying to keep it all together as to what is where and how to find what you’re looking for. So, I decided I would tabulate the totals of all crew, gear, and more and lay it all out. Under consideration is what came with the base game, Blue Sun rim space expansion, Wash’s Lucky Dinosaurs, Breakin’ Atmo game booster, Pirates & Bounty Hunters game expansion, Esmeralda and Jetwash game boosters, and the recent Kalidasa rim space expansion.
First, let’s take a look at the overall opportunities in the supply planets. Of the 261 cards, there are only six drive cores, one at Meridian and the other five at Osiris. 45 Ship Upgrades, most of which can be found in Osiris, Regina, and Persephone, although Space Bazaar, Meridian, and Beaumonde also have them. The most crew can be found at Silverhold, although Persephone, Regina, and Space Bazaar also contain a lot of crew. And Space Bazaar and Silverhold have the most gear, although the other five supply planets all have double-digit amount of gear cards.
Looking to hire specific types of crew members? For Pilots, one should head to Space Bazaar for the best chances, although Osiris has a couple. For Mechanics, Persephone will give one the best odds, although there are also a couple at Regina (including Kaylee). For Medics, Osiris offers the most. You can continue looking at the chart for all of the other descriptors.
Looking for keywords? Of the seven keywords, the most infrequent is Sniper Rifle, which can mostly be found in Silverhold and Regina. Immediately following it are the Hacking Rig, mostly found at Space Bazaar and Persephone; Fancy Duds, primarily found at Persephone; Fake ID, most commonly found at Persephone; and Explosives, most commonly found at Silverhold, although also pretty common at Space Bazaar and Persephone. By far, the most common keyword is Firearm, which is the only keyword found in all seven supply planets. The second most commonly found keyword is Transport, which can be found most frequently at Regina.
Here’s a further breakdown of where all of the keywords in the game are located. I am including crew/leaders who possess keywords, for which I have supplied asterisks (each asterisk represents a crew/leader). This breakdown also separates out discard gear versus non-discard cards, as well as those cards that list not one, but two keywords.
While knowing where the prevalence of various crew and gear are can be a gigantic boost in one’s game play, one also has to consider how (in)frequently each of them can appear in the respective supply piles. Now that there are more cards in play, the five original supply planets all have more than 40 cards in each of them, so the frequency of finding what a player is looking for has been decreased. Nevertheless, the more cards, the more fun 🙂
