Trying Some Whiskies at Rí Rá Irish Pub [Whiskey Wednesday]
When looking for places on the Las Vegas Strip to try a variety of whiskies, Rí Rá Irish Pub may have the biggest selection. Located in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, Rí Rá Irish Pub also features live music every night (or almost every night), so it’s a lively place, as well. Most of their whiskies are Irish and they also have a fair amount of Scotch. They have others, such as Bourbons, but the focus is on Irish whiskies (it’s an Irish pub, after all). They offer six flights of Irish whiskies, consisting of three .5oz tastings (equivalent to one shot in total).
While on my visit to Las Vegas last month, I initially went and tried the “Tour of Ireland” flight, which began with Powers, which was spicy and had a nice nose to it. Next was Bushmills, which was more subdued – less of a bouquet and less spice. Last was Tullamore Dew, which was more lively than the Bushmills.
I then moved on to the Jameson flight: Jameson, Jameson Gold, & Jameson 12. Following the previous flight, the Jameson came off as pretty smooth and pleasant – what I expected out of Jameson. Next up was Jameson Gold, which was a little bit more special and had a glow about it, flavor-wise, which makes sense to call it gold. Last up was Jameson 12, which was much calmer than the previous two, although, on the tail-end, one gets the spicing of the alcohol.
I then went back the next night and got the Bushmills Flight, which consisted of Bushmills, Black Bush, and Bushmills 10. Although I tried substituting Bushmills 16 for the regular Bushmills, they wouldn’t allow it 🙁 The Bushmills was decent – smooth, yet earthy. The Black Bush had more liveliness to it. And the Bushmills 10 was fine – I had trouble discerning the difference between it and the regular Bushmills.
I recommend visiting this pub if you are looking to try various flights of whiskey on the Las Vegas Strip, especially Irish whiskey!
