Considering “Breakin’ Atmo” Expansion for “Firefly: The Game”
While I have previously discussed a couple of game expansions for “Firefly: The Game” – Blue Sun and Pirates & Bounty Hunters – I realized I haven’t yet mentioned the first expansion for the game. “Breakin’ Atmo” is a simple game expansion, coming with 50 new cards, 25 new jobs and 25 new supply cards.
There are 5 supply cards each at Space Bazaar, Silverhold, Regina, Osiris, and Persephone. There are two crew available for hiring at all of them, except at Regina, where there is only one new crew. All of these nine crew members come with at least one skill and no more than two skills.
The best gear in this expansion are the two Cortex Uplink cards ($1200) at Perspehone, with two skills, Nandi’s Gun Collection card ($1200) at Regina, which comes with a skill and two key words, and the Vehicle Mounted BFG cards ($600) at Silverhold, which have two skills and one key word (although it requires a transport).
There are 5 new jobs at each of the contacts in the [original] game – Patience, Niska, Harken, Badger, and Amnon Duul. While the payouts are not, prima facie, particularly high, the jobs “all use a new skill-based pay,” according to an information card in the deck. This information card continues, “Each Job’s Pay Tab lists an amount, plus an additional amount you’ll be paid per Skill Point in your crew”, so it is better to complete these jobs once a player has multiple crew members, especially with multiple skills.
I am looking forward to incorporating these new supply cards and jobs into my playing of “Firefly: The Game”.
