Sugarlands Distilling Serves Up a Boozy Creamsicle in a Bottle
Looking for a boozy, adult beverage reminiscent of one’s childhood? A new product felicitously merges the tastiness of an orange creamsicle with an adult beverage.
Electric Orange Cream Liqueur does just that, with 20% ABV, keeping it boozy enough to be satisfying, while not too boozy for those for whom a spirit might be too much. Produced by Sugarlands Distilling Company, distillers of award-winning spirits in East Tennessee, their newest Appalachian Sippin’ Cream is currently available at the downtown Gatlinburg distillery and will soon be available online, as well as in stores.
Electric Orange Cream Liqueur combines a bright, fresh orange zest with the smooth taste of vanilla cream. There is a noticeable note of booziness on the nose, as well as the orange creaminess. On the palate, however, the booze gets covered up by the greatly enjoyable creaminess and sweetness of an orange creamsicle. As my wife described it, upon tasting it, “I definitely get why they describe it as a creamsicle.” Its texture seems somewhat similar to that of Bailey’s Irish Cream, in terms of thickness. The Appalachian Sippin’ Cream, however, is more delectably creamy, in a satisfying manner. It is delectably vanilla-sweet with creamily citrus overtones. It finishes in an interesting way, with a residual “chill” from the creamiscleness, accompanied by some heat from the booze. It is certainly an interesting drink, with different experiences from the nose to the palate and on to the finish.
Sugarlands Distilling’s Electric Orange Cream Liqueur comes in a Mason Jar, which is meant to be evocative of the manner in which moonshine is often kept. Whether one wants to drink out of a glass, added to a float, or even sipped straight out of the Mason jar, it is a creamily delicious beverage.
Since opening in March 2014, Sugarlands Distilling Company has quickly become one of the most celebrated crafters of moonshine spirits in the country. The East Tennessee distillery currently offers 14 varieties of award-winning moonshine distilled in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Sugarlands Distilling Company combines innovative drinks with a raconteur and thrilling vibe. At the downtown Gatlinburg distillery, craft moonshine and whiskey partners up with live music, moonshine tastings, distillery tours and outdoor adventures in the Sugarlands—an area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, also known as “moonshiners’ paradise”.
