HomeBooze at CES Unveiled: Beer, Wine, & Cocktails – Oh My! [Tech Tuesday]

PicoBrew brews small batches of homebrew
In advance of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that took place a few weeks ago in Las Vegas, dozens of products were showcased at CES Unveiled a couple of nights ahead of CES, including a few alcohol-related ones. One helps homebrewers, one improves one’s wine, and one creates cocktails.
Following up on their (other brewing machine) they come out with a few years ago, PicoBrew was showing off their new machine, which takes up much less space and is more affordable. Brewing on Pico is as simple as filling a keg with water, loading the hop and grain modules into the machine and hitting “Brew”. Automatic steam-cleaning and compostable pulp packaging for grains and hops make clean-up easy. After brewing, the beer is fermented by adding yeast from the PicoPak, and then transferred to five (5) liter serving kegs and carbonated. At 12″ wide and 31 pounds, the Pico, for the first time ever, allows someone with no brewing experience to easily brew five (5) liters of fresh, top-quality craft beer in the comfort of their own kitchen.

D-Vine attracting a lot of attention at CES Unveiled
The next product, D-Vine by 10-Vins, attracted a lot of attention at CES Unveiled 2016, with a constant flock of attendees. While it does not produce wine, it does make it taste better. One places 100ml flacons of wine in the machine and, within a minute, the machine is able to serve the wine. Now, this serving is done at the right temperature and with the proper amount of aeration for the wine. This optimal serving of wine is achieved with the flacons having RFID chips embedded(!) in them, being able to detect what the wine needs. The experience of wine-drinking is, thus greatly enhanced. Some have compared this machine to a Keurig for wines, since one can drop the “pod” in the machine and have the wine instantly optimized for consumption.

Dylan Purcell-Lowe, CEO and Co-Founder of Somabar, demonstrating how the product works
There was also a product that is the world’s first app-enabled bartending gadget. Somabar integrates wi-fi, onboard sensors, and one can order cocktails via an app. One can make one’s drinks stronger or less boozy depending upon how one prefers their drinks, simply by adjusting it on the app. Users can also create and share recipes, as well. There are six refill Soma Pods which are removable, dishwasher-safe and portable. Each Somabar container holds about 750ml.
The future for home boozing bodes well 🙂
